TUWHIRI ONLINE BOOK READING GROUP
What is this? Ancient questions for modern minds
by Martine and Stephen Batchelor
Sundays from 19 April through Sunday 19 July on Zoom
Followed by a Q&A session with Martine Batchelor on Saturday 25 July (tbc)
A series of talks given by Martine and Stephen Batchelor during a Seon (Chan/Zen) retreat at Gaia House in Devon, England, What is this? leads us through the practice of radical questioning at the heart of this Korean Buddhist tradition, showing how anyone at all can benefit from this form of radical inquiry today.
Stephen and Martine show how a practice with its origins in China a thousand years ago can meld with insights from the natural sciences, classical and modern western philosophy, Romantic poetry, and early Buddhism.
This reading group will discuss one chapter each week on Zoom for 14 weeks.
Here are the session start times across a range of time zones
This group will meet at a suitable for people in northern, central and south America. We have yet to decide whether it will also be timed to include people in Europe/Africa or Australasia and eastern Asia. So, wherever you are on the planet, please register your interest in taking part as this will help us decide the time of day the group will meet.
Facilitation
As with many book reading groups, this one will determine how to share the facilitation process among participants during its first session.
